I think you might be stretching the definition of "awesome" a bit.

They sure made and sold a ton of "affordable" stuff. As an aspiring teenage audiotool i have fond memories of a cheap sparko car deck and rat shack speakers that were the basis of my very first portable sound system. Powered by a garden tractor battery, that rig saw many campouts with good friends.

I had a Sparkomatic tape deck, in my first truck, powering some 10" drivers pulled from a console........ mounted in cardboard boxes that I got from work :-)

I remember reading a Julian Hirsch review on this system. He was highly critical of the porting.

That's the whole problem, they should have been in open baffles cut from double wall corrugated.
